AFTER STUDYING AND WORKING AT VARIOUS WINERIES, HE STRUCK OUT ON HIS OWN IN 2017, STARTING WITH TWO HECTARES IN ALCAMO. LOCATED BETWEEN MARSALA AND PALERMO, ALCAMO IS KNOWN FOR ITS DRY, RUGGED HILLS—AN IDEAL GROWING AREA FOR SICILY’S INDIGENOUS CATARRATTO GRAPE. SERGIO IS CONSIDERED ONE OF THE FINEST INTERPRETERS OF THIS VARIETAL, SKILLFULLY BALANCING ITS SALINE FRESHNESS WITH COMPLEX, TEXTURAL LAYERS. TODAY, HE WORKS AROUND FIVE HECTARES OF MOSTLY CALCAREOUS SOIL, GROWING NOT ONLY CATARRATTO BUT ALSO NERO D’AVOLA AND SYRAH.
